This place is a hidden gem. Best tenderloin and fries I have ever had. All food here is fresh made, including the French fries. Two thumbs up!!

I've lived in Marshalltown 3.5 years and have wanted to try their breakfast on a Saturday morning. Finally I did. The three stars mean both good and bad. I will start with the bad, but please don't miss the good that follows because it explains why I gave 3 rather than 2 stars.
I ordered a short stack of blueberry pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs, bacon extra crispy, and black coffee.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
The scrambled eggs were obviously pre-beaten and poured out of a pitcher onto a grill. This method creates a thin circle or rectangle of egg that then gets folded and rolled up to serve. It is convenient for the cook, but doesn't make very appealing scrambled eggs for the eater. Scrambled eggs should be fluffy and moist, not dry and thin.
Secondly, I ordered bacon cooked extra crispy and added that I like my bacon to snap rather than bend. What I received was a bunch of small pieces of bacon that had obviously been precooked and reheated on the grill or maybe in a microwave. They were chewy and limp.
The waitress didn't heat up my coffee until I was ready to leave.
WHAT I LIKED
This diner is nicely decorated, and CLEAN! I am really amazed out how clean, and inviting it was for a local diner that has been around so long. Hats off to Craig, the owner, for attention to that.
The waitress was great other than the coffee thing. Lots of tables to take care of but she was attentive and friendly, never showing how busy she was. After I was done and she brought the bill. I pointed to my barely eaten bacon, explained why, and she offered to take it off my bill.
The coffe itself, for a small diner, was good. Almost every diner I've ever eaten at has bad coffee. Doo Dah's coffe was not bad. I appreciate that.
The blueberry pancakes were good. Nice and thick. In a restaurant setting it is nearly impossible to make pancakes the "ideal" way where the batter isn't over-mixed. It just isn't practical in made-to-order settings. But even though this batter was well mixed, the pancakes were thick and tasty. Impressive for a diner.
My bill, with the bacon removed, was $8.50 and I happily tipped my waitress another $1.50 because overall she deserved it. -

It took me almost more than 15 years to discover this place. I'm a breakfast aficionado that loves hotcakes and eggs in the morning. Do Dah's is the best place in town I've found for breakfast. Locally owned and probably healthier than getting breakfast at a chain.
When I go here I usually get the Blueberry hotcakes and scrambled eggs. More than a handful of people I've taken here have remarked how amazing the hotcakes are. The owner is friendly, but sometimes his tall tales go into Walter Mitty territory.
The only reason that I don't give this place 5 stars is because they used to serve breakfast at any hour, but for some incredibly strange reason the owner decided that breakfast stops at 11:00 am.
